Schmidt of Søborg is one of those names that drifts through Danish pipe lore like a half-remembered tune. No catalogues, no interviews, no tidy lineage tying him to the big Copenhagen shops—just a stamp, a town name, and pipes that clearly weren’t made by accident. Active mostly through the 1980s and 1990s, his work stayed almost entirely local, and that’s part of the point. These weren’t export pipes chasing trends; they were made for people who actually smoked them.
The shapes are unmistakably Danish but just a little flashier than the norm, with proportions that lean slightly unusual without ever tipping into novelty. There’s confidence in the carving—clean drilling, smart balance, and a feel in the hand that tells you the maker knew exactly what he was doing. Locals still speak highly of his craftsmanship, and the reverence hasn’t faded with time.
Whoever Schmidt was, he didn’t seem interested in building a brand or a legend. He let the pipes do the talking. And decades later, they still do—quietly, honestly, and with just enough personality to remind you that not all great Danish pipes came from famous benches.

I combine shipping on orders over $40 in the continental US, just ask!
Measurements available upon request.
My shipping is a little more than some. I use UPS (unless it's going to a PO Box or non contiguous US) because UPS has a 98% success rate versus UPS at 87.5%. I have a dedicated UPS representative who goes above and beyond in the rare case there is a shipping issue. Three-ish dollars is worth the peace of mind in my opinion.
