Now here’s a fine piece of French pipe-making history! J. Sommer was a Parisian pipe manufacturer whose roots stretch back to the 19th century. The firm earned gold medals at the Paris exhibitions of 1878 and 1889, establishing a reputation for quality craftsmanship. Sommer’s briar pipes were graded with a system of one to four suns or stars, with four representing the highest grade.
This handsome three-star example sports a dramatically canted stack bowl, a long, slender shank, and a graceful tapered stem. Beautiful straight grain follows the angular lines of the bowl, while the warm, honey-brown finish brings out the natural character of the briar.
A striking French estate pipe with plenty of old-world craftsmanship and enough character to stand tall in any Texas pipe collection.
Professionally restored. Stem is 9/10. Come and take it.

I combine shipping on orders over $40 in the continental US, just ask!
Measurements available upon request.
My shipping is a little more than some. I use UPS (unless it's going to a PO Box or non contiguous US) because UPS has a 98% success rate versus USPS at 87.5%. I have a dedicated UPS representative who goes above and beyond in the rare case there is a shipping issue. Three-ish dollars is worth the peace of mind in my opinion.
