Bayle is a lesser-seen French name with roots in Saint-Claude, the historic heart of French briar pipe making. Established in 1968 by Jean Étienne Gustave Bayle, the brand lasted until 1980, giving these pipes a relatively short production window spanning the late ’60s and ’70s.
Bayle operated as a private label, with production attributed in pipe references to Genod or EWA—two names associated with Saint-Claude’s established pipe industry. That places Bayle within the town’s long tradition of workshops producing briars both under their own names and for outside brands.
The appeal is a little off the beaten path: vintage French briar carrying a name you won’t encounter on every pipe rack, backed by a connection to one of the world’s great pipe-making centers. A small chapter in Saint-Claude’s history, with plenty of old French character.

I combine shipping on orders over $40 in the continental US, just ask!
Measurements available upon request.
My shipping is a little more than some. I use UPS (unless it's going to a PO Box or non contiguous US) because UPS has a 98% success rate versus USPS at 87.5%. I have a dedicated UPS representative who goes above and beyond in the rare case there is a shipping issue. Three-ish dollars is worth the peace of mind in my opinion.
